Michael as a Reader
Michael learned to read by reading. In kindergarten, he listened to one book of fairy tales so much that he knew it word for word. He would then read it over and over to himself and that's how he learned to read. His mom tried to read him the Harry Potter series, but she only read one chapter at a time, so he read it himself. He read a lot as a child, mostly so he could get AR points. He read a lot of books, and got a lot of points.
People read for many reasons. Some people read because the like it. Some people read because they have to. Some people read for AR points.
In order to be a good reader, you must be able to read. Reading quickly can make yourself a better reader, and so can comprehending what you can read. But the fact is, it doesn't matter how good of a reader you are. Most people can read and understand something if they are given enough time. Even poor readers can enjoy reading and become better through practice.
Reading is very easy for Michael because he is good at it. He read a lot as a child, and was lucky enough to be born with a high reading comprehension ability. He was able to read all of the required reading throughout his educational career without putting much work into it.
Michael finds that the hardest part of reading is reading things that he is uninterested in. When Michael is given a required reading, and has other things he would rather be doing, he has trouble focusing on the book. Despite this, Michael usually is able to finish books for school.
Michael reads books that he enjoys. He enjoys books with an engaging plot and intelligent characters. Plots holes often ruin books for him, as do stupid characters. Michael also enjoys books that convey meanings with their stories.
Michael reads books at home when he has to or when he has a book he enjoys. He reads more fictional books in the summer, and will usually read 3 or 4 books each summer. During the school year, Michael reads about 2 books every 6 weeks.
