This week involved a lot of writing, rewriting, editing and recording. I spent the majority of this week honing in my This I Believe essay. Using the plan that I discussed last week, I feel like I have edited it to where I want it to be. It states my belief, shares why I believe it, and connects to me personally. I recorded it a couple of times, but I really wasn't happy with the way I sounded. It's not that I'm bothered with the way my voice sounds on a recording, but something about reading from a script makes it feel very unnatural. It makes me realize that my writing style is nothing like my speaking style. If I recorded first and then typed it, it would sound very different and probably be grammatically terrible. So when I do my final recording I need to find a good medium between reading my essay and sharing my story. If I can find that balance then my video will be a lot better.
The other thing I did this week was mostly outside of class. I started reading the book "Fahrenheit 451" for my SSR project. I've read this book before, but let me tell you, I forgot how great it is. Maybe it's because I read literature more often now, or because I've taken 4 more years of English, but even when I was just starting I marveled at how well it is written. In the first 10 pages I felt invested in the book and was able to pick up subtle changes in Montag's character when he meets Clarisse. I also noticed that it's written in this disorienting style that doesn't explain very much and it uses a lot of weird symbolism to represent objects. I think it really captures the rushed, have-as-much-fun-as-you-can, feel of the society. So many things in this book have direct correlation to society today, and it has made me rethink some of the things that we do.
